ChildCarePeek

Our Methodology

Editor's Note: ChildCarePeek processes childcare cost data from Child Care Aware of America. Every data point traces back to an official source.

Data Sources

All data on ChildCarePeek is sourced from Child Care Aware of America, the nation's leading voice for child care. Our most recent dataset covers 2024 "Price of Care" report data.

Data Processing

State-level data comes directly from the annual "Price of Care" survey. City-level costs are derived from state baselines adjusted by local cost-of-living indices. We calculate average costs across all care types and age groups to produce overall affordability rankings.

Care Type Data

Childcare type costs (daycare, nanny, preschool, etc.) represent national averages from industry surveys and Bureau of Labor Statistics data. Actual costs vary by location, provider quality, and specific care arrangements.

Update Frequency

Data is updated annually when new reports are published. Each page displays data year to indicate freshness.

Accuracy & Limitations

While we strive for accuracy, all data comes with inherent limitations. Survey data may have sampling errors, and city-level estimates are modeled from state data. Users should treat our data as informational estimates rather than exact quotes.
